Youth will explore several techniques for joining metal safely and efficiently. Learn how to repair a metal item or create amazing art with this useful skill.
Grow in Your Project
Beginner
- Identify equipment needed to weld
- Practice safety precautions
- Learn the role of electrodes in welding
- Understand what different electrode markings mean and select the proper electrode
Intermediate
- Join two pieces of metal:
- Butt joints welded with groove welds and T
- Lap joints welded with fillet welds
- Follow welding procedures
- Complete a welding project from the curriculum
Advanced
- Weld in the vertical and overhead positions
- Use high carbon, spring steel, and alloy steels
- Use low-hydrogen electrodes
- Practice cutting and welding with an oxyacetylene torch
