Retired 4-H Agent & Marinette County Volunteer
Walter (Wally) Hitt was born and raised on a small farm in Northern Wisconsin. He was in 4-H for two years and was club President. The forestry project changed his future career plans, inspiring him to pursue degrees from UW Madison in rural sociology and agricultural journalism. Wally was the Marinette County 4-H and Youth Agent for 29 years. He demonstrated the importance of family by taking his wife Susan, and two children to most 4-H events. Wally also treated the 4-H members and leaders like family. He encouraged everyone to meet and exceed their potential and helped with projects and events.
Wally helped build the 4-H Food Stand at the fairgrounds and continues to help with maintenance. He also helped create a 4-H reserve fund, a camp scholarship fund, community prevention programs, Teen Court, a Friends of Camp Bird group, and was instrumental in the 4-H Cloverbud program in Wisconsin. Wally is still a 4-H leader serving on county committees, teaching archery, and helping members and leaders where he can. If there is a 4-H project or idea to be worked on, you will find Wally there to help.
