Becky Merwin

Walworth County 4-H Volunteer

Becky Merwin has been a valuable Walworth County 4-H volunteer for 58 years. She started her 4-H journey at age nine, showing beef cattle and demonstrating her sewing skills, which led to becoming a general leader and key sewing leader for future 4-H youth.

She coached hundreds of 4-H youth during this period, encouraging their passion for 4-H. In addition to Becky’s work as the owner of a 700-acre farm, which she rented to a former 4-H youth, she has been a realtor for over 30 years. She has served on the Walworth County, State Fair, and State 4-H Foundation boards and is a 40+-year county fair judge. Becky was included on the organizational team that started the State 4-H Auction, County Fur and Feather sale, and the Linn 4-H benefit horse show, and was a key supporter of the 4-H Centennial Park Pavilion project.

When asked what she is most proud of during her board tenure, Becky highlighted the arts and craft building, now the cultural art building, that she rehabilitated and redefined from an old horse barn.

Becky states that seeing her former 4-H youth as parents and their children now as exhibitors and watching them grow has been a wonderful experience. She emphasizes that “The life skills learned are crucial opportunities available through 4-H.”
