Jeanne BaumOutagamie County 4-H Educator

Jeanne Baum served as the Outagamie County Youth Development Agent from 1976-2009, her whole Extension career. Her programming emphasis included strengthening 4-H community clubs, youth and adult leadership development, youth protection, 4-H project support, curriculum development and financial accountability. The 4-H Youth Development program expanded through urban outreach to diverse and underserved audiences, including Hmong and Native American 4-H clubs, afterschool initiatives and school enrichment programs such as Adventures in Dairyland.

Community partnerships provided an opportunity to expand programs to at-risk youth, including youth groups at the Emergency Homeless Shelter, Harbor House Domestic Abuse Shelter and Youth Garden with Boys and Girls Club and Fox Cities Arboretum.

Jeanne was actively involved in the Department of Youth Development, Wisconsin Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals (WAE4-HYDP), Epsilon Sigma Phi and Faculty Governance. She served as president, board member, chair or member of various committees and treasurer for the 2006 NAE4-HA Conference. Jeanne received the University of Wisconsin-Extension Distinguished Service Award in 1984.

As a 4-H member in Dane County, Jeanne was active in clothing, dairy and foods projects. She has been a 4-H club clothing leader since 1993, adapting clothing projects to the changing interests of youth.

In retirement, Jeanne volunteers as an Adventure in Dairyland instructor, County Home and Community Education treasurer and Bookworm reader, scrip coordinator for St. Edward School and Town Planning Commission member.
