Beef Project Curriculum

Youth in the Beef project explore the species at many levels, from beginners to advanced and beyond.

  • Bite into Beef, Level 1—Youth identify breeds, locate parts, judge, halter break a calf, fit a steer, show a calf, recognize a healthy animal, select feed ingredients and shop for beef and beef by-products.
  • Here’s the Beef, Level 2—Youth take part in activities related to leg structure, oral reasons, feed ingredients, behavior, nose printing, parasites, fitting, ethical issues, beef carcass composition, and retail meat cuts.
  • Leading the Charge, Level 3—Youth learn about election and judging, feeds, careers, health, reproduction, and meats and marketing, to encourage more in-depth learning.
  • Beef Project Helper’s Guide—This guide to the beef curriculum features selection, breed identification, parts identification, handling, grooming, showing, budgeting, identifying parasites, controlling fleas, and spaying activities.
