Curious minds filled the Seyforth Building on Nov. 8 as Pierce County 4-H hosted its annual Discovery Day at the Pierce County Fairgrounds. The event welcomed 4-H members and new families eager to learn about the opportunities 4-H has to offer. More than 40 youth ages 6-16 spent the morning diving into hands-on learning and discovering their spark.
Youth rotated through workshops led by 15 volunteers who shared their knowledge, skills, and passion for 4-H projects. Youth learned how to identify trees and wild birds, explored robotics and electricity, and discovered the science of seed germination and the insect life cycle. They also tried their hand at metal stamping and jewelry making and met youth leaders from the dog and poultry projects.
The morning was filled with laughter, curiosity, and creativity. Between sessions, youth created their own trail mix from a colorful variety of ingredients, including pretzels, nuts, raisins, cranberries, and chocolate candies. During snack time, they learned the importance of good nutrition and how eating well helps fuel their bodies and minds for learning.
Pierce County 4-H Discovery Day is more than just a fun morning of activities. It gives young people a chance to explore their interests, meet caring volunteers and youth leaders, and gain confidence to try something new. Events like this help youth become Beyond Ready! Ready to lead, ready to learn, and ready to grow.
Pierce County 4-H believes in providing youth with opportunities to explore their passions and connect learning to real-life experiences. Discovery Day proved that when youth are encouraged to explore, create, and lead, they not only gain new skills but also discover who they are and what they can become.
