Nicianak 4-H Club leaders attended a train-the-trainer weekend session on how to make pucker toe woodland style moccasins. 4-H Educator, Sofie, led the group in experiential learning strategies needed to work with youth in 4-H. Some were new to 4-H and some were certified leaders. The fun trade off was that we asked participants to become volunteers and lead a youth 4-H moccasin making class with club members, ages 10 & up. Adults paid a $20 supply fee and were provided with a lifetime gift of learning step-by-step instructions on how to make moccasins. To reinforce their knowledge and to encourage volunteerism in the club, we provided leader training sessions for each class and were able to gain five new 4-H leaders. A class was held using a similar format for youth just in time for the global celebration, Rock Your Mocs, in honor of Native American Heritage month.
