Taste of 4-H Open House a Hit in Kewaunee County

Monday, September 30 was a busy day at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds, with the first annual Taste of 4-H Open House. A combination of open house and project day, this free event introduced new families to 4-H and also gave current 4-H’ers and family members an opportunity to see what Kewaunee County 4-H has to offer.

We had a number of our community clubs on hand, creating crafts with visitors, showcasing what their clubs do on a yearly basis, and even scooping ice cream. Projects also had a huge presence including the beloved Leathercraft project, cake decorating, Poultry Project duck races, aerospace straw rockets and more. The animal projects stepped up with visits from Goats, Dogs, Rabbits and a great Rabbit Hopping demonstration.

Many volunteers were needed to make this event take shape. They were very pleased with the turnout of the event. One volunteer even commented, “We had more people walk in the door during the first 5 minutes than we did the last two years.” “Our girls had a great time!” said a parent commenting on the event’s Facebook post. “Thank you for the amazing event!”

A highlight coming out of this event is a new club leader for a new/restarted club in Algoma. New community contacts were made and families signed up. The 2025 Taste of 4-H Open House is already set for Monday, October 6.
