It is with great excitement that we share with you that Wisconsin 4-H received funding to implement a statewide 4-H AmeriCorps program! Wisconsin 4-H will have AmeriCorps State members who will serve in 29 counties across Wisconsin between September 2023 through August 2024. AmeriCorps members will support the development of new and expanded relationships in counties, serving in partnership with local organizations to build capacity in communities, start new 4-H clubs, and recruit additional volunteers to grow Wisconsin 4-H, expand access, and reach new audiences.
“AmeriCorps members will serve in local Extension offices providing positive 4-H youth development programming directly to youth. Their focus will be on growing 4-H clubs in partnership with other organizations or associations. Through AmeriCorps, members will work with local educators to grow and build 4-H community clubs, in school clubs, afterschool clubs, or military clubs, through intentional and focused efforts to provide youth a holistic and complete 4-H experience,” said Melinda Pollen, project coordinator for Wisconsin 4-H.
Are you, or do you know, someone who may be a great fit to spend a year in service? Members must be 18 and have a high school diploma, pass background checks, and be ready to get things done for their communities. Members could be recent high school graduates, gap year students, mid-career, or retirees. Opportunities are available for full-time, part-time, and short term positions! WI AmeriCorps locations and positions listings Members will serve in areas throughout Wisconsin as seen on the map. Members are currently being recruited in the sites.
In return for service, members receive a modest monthly living allowance, and at the completion of their term of service, will receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. After completing a full term of service, AmeriCorps Members may receive an award of over $6,000 that they can use to pay for college or to pay off student loans. Awards vary based on members’ status such as full-time or less than full-time. This is a great opportunity to promote the mission of Wisconsin 4-H and recruit individuals into a career with Extension. We hope this first year of the WI 4-H AmeriCorps program truly helps make the best better. Have questions or want to learn more?
