On Thursday, August 4th join Upham Woods and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to help manage Barberry on Blackhawk Island. We will be pulling the invasive Barberry in marked areas, and if there is time, we will be gridding the island to locate additional patches of Barberry. Volunteers are welcome to come for either the whole day or half a day! Volunteers must be over the age of 13. This is a great opportunity for your record book!
When: Thursday, August 4th. 9 am-12 pm and/or 1-4 pm.
Where: Upham Woods, N194 County Rd N, Wisconsin Dells, WI. After parking in the main parking lot, meet us in our lobby for check-in. We will then take the barge or pontoon to Blackhawk island to start working. There are no bathrooms on Blackhawk Island, but we will have trowels/toilet paper available if needed.
What to bring: Long pants and closed-toed shoes. Water bottle. Lunch (if you are staying all day).
Upham Woods will provide: Gloves, tools, bug spray, and light refreshments.
Accessibility: This work will take place off trail and may require traversing hills and uneven ground. It also requires standing/bending for extended periods of time. To request accommodations, or to discuss alternative volunteer opportunities, please contact Rachael Lewandowski-Sarette at lewandowskis@wisc.edu or 608-890-1137.
