4-H Smart Goals – Increasing Youth Voice & Sharing Skills

It can be a bit daunting trying to get the right environment for people to share their voices. The truth is even when they shrug their shoulders in response or stare blankly, something is being said. It’s usually a big indicator that the group needs to shake things up a little bit.

The 3rd most popular SMART goal in 177 of our 4-H Charter Applications was: increasing youth voice and sharing skills. So some support is clearly in order!

Creating a safe space where anyone can feel secure in sharing their thoughts and ideas can be tricky. The first part of any of this work is to give them the security that they won’t be dismissed or laughed at for an idea or suggestion. Work with your group to see how they envision this safe space.

The process for sharing thoughts and ideas doesn’t have to always be so serious either. When it’s fun, it’s easier to share! There are lots of ways that sharing ideas and opinions can be interactive and fun!
