What happens at the State 4-H Meats Contest? Youth rank 6 classes on pork, lamb, and beef carcasses, hams, and retail cuts; identify 40 retail and processed meat cuts as well as quality and yield grade beef carcasses, and answer questions on a consumer label. Seniors also give a set of oral reasons on the beef carcasses.
A special thank you to Bernie O’Rourke and Jeff Sindelar for organizing this great experience in the new new Meat Science & Animal Biologics Discovery Building. Also a shout out to all of the volunteer coaches that help members prepare for this contest and help on the day of the event.
